Any good German TV shows with English subtitles?

If I was learning Japanese I would jump on watching anime with subs, but nope; I'm learning German. Any pointers?

Thanks to everyone who recommended Deutschland 83. I`ve watched it and liked it a lot ! Looking forward for the next season...next year !

on Netflix some anime, such as "seven deadly sins" allows you to switch to German audio and you can turn on English subtitles as well. I highly recommend this :)

Easy Languages German on Youtube, it's not a tv show but has subtitles. It has both English and German subtitles (frankly I prefer the German). And also go to the Youtube channel Deutsch lernen, there's a tv show on there but it only has German subtitles. Though, it's pretty basic and not hard to follow. That's all I've got, hope it helps!

"Bernd Das Brot" is awesome it is on youtube and has English subtitles!

My recommendation is to watch some TED or TEDx talks in English with german subtitles. It is might not be so good as hearing german and reading english, but helps as well. Here is link, you can choose subtitles below the video: https://www.ted.com/

Might not be your level, but Extr@ Deutsch is bang on for beginners who are not quite ready for "real" TV

13 episodes on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N0G2f6TG28s&list=PL-wlhjBlJMB8UlC8L7Adup41j_8Y4hSOk&spfreload=1

Sorry to say, I have found very few online. Mostly I find them if I am lucky enough to find a German language film/TV series on DVD. English speakers tend to have everything dubbed into English or have it remade in English.

The best I could suggest would be to use German language terms when you search. For example to search for +"englischen untertiteln" on Google, Vimeo, YouTube etc.

This is a teaser for the upcoming interview series Marathon Gespräche. The series will be in German with English subtitles. - Das ist der Teaser für die kommende Interview-Serie Marathon Gespräche. Die Serie wird auf Deutsch mit englischen Untertiteln sein.

If ever you want just straight German TV then you could try:

Deusche Welle has a whole section to learn German including with videos and exercises.

Try this webpage it has several TV series all in German, sometimes with German subs ("UT" option)...I'm trying the "Kinder" section and its kind-off entertaining.

Deutschland 83 is a MUST WATCH, and it has english subs! unfortunately there are only 8 episodes but still my favorite right now!

Thank you for the recommendation! Ordered it and I love it! I read that they may be making a second season!

where can I watch it?

Generation War and Deutschland 83 are the best I've seen so far.

Does anyone know if there are subtitles for a German documentary called "Alpha Centauri"? I can't find them anywhere! :'C

There's this freemium software called sublight that can find subtitles for things. Works most of the time.

I've found that Extr@ Deutsch is good for beginners. Youtube also has lots of children's tv in German such as Pippi Longstocking (with German subs) and Die Sendung mit der Maus. It's juvenile but great for learning because you learn as native children would.

Walter Presents also has lots of foreign language programmes (usually dramas) subbed in English so you can probably find several shows there (along with Deutschland 83) which have an older target audience.

Deutschland 83 ist ganßtoll!!

can you recommend a website to watch it for free and with english subtitles please?

on 4od (channel 4 on demand, in England). You might not be from england so it won't be available. However, if you get a VPN app that changes your IP address to England then it will work. There are loads on the app store, i have used one for about a year and it has been fine. You just have to keep connecting and disconnecting until you get the place you want

I highly recommend "Dark" it is a german tv show and it is available on Netflix. there also nice resources on dw.com http://www.dw.com/de/deutsch-lernen/s-2055

I'm also learning German and I just finished watching Dark, I also recommend it 10/10

This is kind of a dumb question, but do you listen in German and watch the English subtitles? Or read the German subtitles? I find that if I put on the English subtitles, I just space out and read and what they're saying doesn't sink in. But when I put on German subtitles, i'm like "hey, i know a lot of these words!" I couldn't hear them without the subtitles, cause they talk so fast, but once I see them, i can see the word and hear how it's pronounced.

For those who liked D83 and "Lola Rennt," I highly recommend Babylon Berlin, a series about the interwar period, which comes from the same director as Lola Rennt: https://www1.swatchseries.to/serie/babylon_berlin

language scientists said from their research that watching movies with their original subtitles is better for pronunciation: here is a link:http://www.mpg.de/593363/pressRelease20091110?filter_order=LT&research_topic=KG-SPW

i do that daily with english and i can assure that it improved my english A LOT. however, i'm nowhere near to understanding german with the same degree that i understand english... but i'm still wondering if it would be best to just try to watch german series/movies with german subtitles or watch them with some other language's subtitles. i'm afraid i would miss out a lot of stuff if i did the former...

I envy people learning Japanese for that reason. Anime, Manga and Kawabata

if it's not too late, there is a site with anime dubbed or subbed in german. it's called anime4you
