Any reason it is cha and not chan, just so I can get it straight in ma head?


It's only chan when before a word starting with a vowel. Chan is the exception. It just happens that chan eil is common enough that you learn it straight away.


"Chan" only before vowel sounds (which includes lenited f[vowel]).
