No. There is no word for yes and no in Gaelic. You respond either positively or negatively using either the positive or negative form of the verb. Is is the positive form of An e, and chan e is the negative form.

For example:

An do leugh thu an leabhar? (did you read the book?) Leugh - yes (leugh means read) Cha do leugh - no
