So is this "excuse me" as in politely trying to get someone's attention, asking for forgiveness, or both?

I wondered if I am hopelessly out of date, but always thought it was leithsgeul, you could even hear the 'h' of some of the speakers I knew. Have I just made it up, false memory syndrome; gabh mo leith-sgeul, take my half-story, as said by bards when they were half way through a performance and could not remember the rest.
