Is rothaireachd only "cycling" and never "bicycling"?
You can't say "I went bicycling". Not sure why, but in English it's always cycling, not bicycling

Well, technically it's still a valid phrase (and should count here imo). A phrase like "I like bicycling" is actually more common than "I went bicycling", but "I went/like cycling" and "I went/like biking" are way more common.
