Hold your mouth like you are about to say ah, and keep your tongue close to the roof of your mouth for the L.
So, when is it appropriate to use du (fam.), and when for Sie (formal)? An earlier lesson said it's a pretty big deal when someone doesn't use the formal Sie when talking to someone.
I'd imagine it depends on who you're talking to. In my mind (not a native speaker), 'du' would be reserved for those you are close to, such as family and good friends, people who might loan you money without a set agreement. Acquaintances, coworkers, and superiors would be referred to using Sie, as using 'du' would be presumptuous.
