Cuál VS Qué (esto es importante)
When asking a "What" question in Spanish, when is it more appropriate to use Cuál or Qué? I realize that there is a difference but I cannot single it out.
Cuál pregunta: Cuál es tu nombre?
Qué pregunta: Qué hora es?
Help is much appreciated! Muchas gracias mis amigos.
I find most of the quick and easy answers people offer to be oversimplifications. Cual usually means you are asking for a selection from a list of options, que is often asking for a definition. Que' es tu nombre? would be answered with "the identifier I use to declare who I am." But there is more to it than that. ;) Check out Professor Jason on YouTube. He has a bunch of good videos, and one on this topic.
A brief quote: "Qué and cuál form one of those word pairs that can be confusing to people learning Spanish, because they both are often translated as the same words into English."
