Shouldn't this be "thig astaigh" for movement towards rather than asteach for position?

Nope, you have them the wrong way around. 'A-staigh' is position, 'a-steach' is movement. Saying that, 'a-staigh' is often used incorrectly instead of 'a-steach'.
