Why does Duolingo put periods at the end of Latin sentences? They weren't used.

It is to make it easier for people who make use of punctuation. You don't have to add the period when entering the sentence, I think.

I’ve often omitted the period (and punctuation generally) in this course without any trouble.

I know that I’ve also omitted periods in the Spanish course without a problem in the past, with only punctuation especially distinctive to the current language (like ¿ or ¡) being checked consistently.
