Iain = John ... tha?

Hi,

I have noticed the Gaelic christian names being used throughout the course eg. Seòras = George, Ealasaid = Elizabeth etc.

Is there a particular reason why John is not Iain?

We named our son Iain after his grandfather's heritage knowing that Iain was/ is John in Scots.

I have a few more of these questions just need to go through my Gaelic dictionary.

Two thumbs up for a GREAT course. :)))

Baldr.

Tapadh leat a charaid!

We didn’t translate some names such as Morag, Iain and Ruairidh as Gaelic speakers with these names are often still known by them in English, where as someone known as Oighrig would be Effie in English! Glad you are enjoying!

Thanks for the reply Ciaran! I was worried I had it wrong & would have to tell my 26y/o son he's not named after his grandfather.

Cheers!
