What are translation tiers and how do you earn them?
Translation tiers are levels in Immersion that just represent how experienced you are translating the language (the higher flag on your tier) to the target language (the lower flag on your tier). You get "experience" for your tier by getting upvotes from other people reading your translations of certain sentences (meaning, your translation is very good). If 90% of these votes are good, you can level up. In the Immersion section, there's a section that shows you how far you are in your tier and the number of upvotes you currently have going to your next tier: It is just right to the list of articles. If you click on (show votes) in parentheses, you will see your upvotes sorted from each article as shown here: In case you don't know, how to upvote a sentence (you click "looks good" to upvote, "looks wrong" to downvote, but I suggest if you see a wrong sentence, just correct it with a comment) If you forget about translation tiers, just click the question mark (next to "progress towards next tier"): (Sorry it was taken on the iPad)
Are translation tiers still a thing? I don't see the option that elemental_fun shows in the screenshots on my Duolingo. Do you have to be at a specific level in a language to gain access to it?
Hi there AbdelRahma227275,
Though Immersion's button was, yes, removed, it isn't completely gone. I recently translated lines from a FIFA 16 Wikipedia article in German. So Translation Tiers and translating is still available.
Yeah, maybe it does still exist for existing users, but not new ones. Anyways, thank you for your reply
I cannot see it in my profile either. Maybe they have removed it or it was a trial and it is now finished.
Do you have to be at a certain level before you receive the Immersion tab? I don't appear to have it on my Duolingo site like in the screengrab above. Each time I try to click on the direct link through the help section, I get a 404 Error.
Strange. They may have removed it. It used to be accessible on the website.
Well to grow your translation tier you need to translate stuff in the Immersion section. According to Duo Help: Each language learner is assigned a tier representing the quality of their translations, as judged by other learners. Your progress within each tier depends on the votes your sentence translations receive from other learners in your tier or higher. You advance to the next tier once you have at least 100 upvotes and at least 90% of your votes are positive.
I also didn't have access to the Immersion tab in Duolingo. I came across this Duolingo Immersion Unlocker.
This is quite useful and instantly activates the Immersion tab for the languages selected by Duolingo. It works on the Google Chrome browser
Unfortunately they stopped it. They are working on a whole new thing and immersion is not part of it anymore :-(
Translation tiers get you more xp for translations. You level up by getting 100 upvotes from others, with 90% positive. You know, you could have searched the forums or clicked the button 'About translation tiers..
