Is this where English gets the word “brethren” from? I know it’s KJV Bible language, but “bràithrean” kind of reminds me of “brethren.”

Can anyone offer why it is "bràithrean" instead of "bràithraichean?" We use "peathraichean" and "bàtaichean" so I am just wondering why that's not true for the plural of "brother." Tapadh leibh!
