How do you determine 'the big door' vs 'a big door'?

It has the definite article "an" in front of it so it's "the".

Gaelic doesn't have an indefinite article so "doras" can mean both "a door" or just "door", depending on context.

"doras mòr" -- a big door "an doras mòr" -- the big door
