Can someone please explain why sometimes comrades is contubernales, and sometimes comites? Is there a difference in usage for different contexts? (Not that there's any context to guide us in this sentence...)

Still no answer unfortunately, and the forums are generally so very good in that regard. Trying various translations is an excellent way to learn but there are some words now for which I just use whatever the top hint is and experiment only in my head.

Duo needs to either: A. Not offer synonyms, B. Accept both, always or C. Explain why they’re not actually synonymous.

Randomly disallowing one or the other is not option D.

Literally why I clicked on this--this is driving me nuts.
