i am confused about da and da with an accent - some books have the accent some do not - what is your experience of this anomaly

It's one of the few cases where the accent is important and enforced as a grammatical rule: "da" is a preposition, while "dà" is a form of the verb dare (either present or imperative, but for the latter the form da' is more common). Mixing the two is considered a bad mistake.
