"Bha i cho foighidneach ri cat."

Translation:She was as patient as a cat.

Are cats known for their patience?

Manx ones are - they've been waiting a long time to get their tails. Seriously though, I'm guessing it refers to when cats are watching a mouse hole or lying in wait for a bird.

Whatever it is they want-- they need it right now, or better yet, twenty minutes ago! So one can interpret this sentence as ironic-- as patient as a cat, as tiny as an elephant, LOL! But yes, I get Mi-Fhin's point-- cats can get obsessive about the mouse-hole, for sure
