Why is 'Ayr' 'Inbhir Àir'? Just curious!
Like Irish "inbhear" and Welsh "aber", "inbhir" means "river mouth". The Scots/English version has just kept the distinctive bit, the name of the river itself, though it used to be Inver Ayr once too.
