# 3 in some of the Arabic lessons

In level 5 of the alphabet (beginner) there is a 3 inserted into many of the phonetic spellings. Is that an error? Or is the three supposed to represent a vocal sound?

It represents a sound. Apparently using the 3 to transcribe that letter when using a mobile phone is something that's common for Arabic speakers and duolingo also went with that version.

It's the letter عَيْن which in its isolated form resembles a 3: ع
