Since I discovered them, I always use them. I copy-paste the English sentences and then I start modelling them into my own translation. Although this still takes quite some time, translating definitely goes quicker like that. However, I notice that some learners here just copy and paste and that's it. By doing this, they risk delivering unintelligible translations and they have learnt nothing whatsoever.

Yes that's true, but those of us that want to learn can submit our own 'real' translations in the alternative translation box, and upvote/revert to the real translations. If we ignore those translations the person won't receive any upvotes and won't progress up the translation tiers, yes they will gain XP points but there is not a lot we can do about that. We can however work together and help progress those that are trying! :)

I try my best to do the translation totally on my own, but when I'm stuck or the wording is really clunky, I take a look to get going into the right direction. Once in a while its just copy paste, but 98% of the time, I do most or all on my own and just check the Duobot afterwards to verify my own.

Yesterday I had the following happen to me: When I had translated the first sentence of a new text I saw that another translator had started too. Normally I then continue somewhat further in the text, so as not to bother the other person. This time, however, I had no opportunity of translating any more, because the whole text was translated in a snap by someone clearly using the copy-paste method. Highly frustrating!

It is in immersion, when you click a sentence to translate it, at the bottom of the box that appears there is an automatic translation given by the DuoBot.

I agree with you. I hardly ever use them, otherwise I don't learn and ultimately it is not about adding points or fiiling in blanks but about learning Spanish. I love the way DL takes me as I am and where I am in my progress.
