"Math" and "deagh" both use the gloss "good." Is there any difference in shade of meaning, or some other prescribed reason for choosing one over the other? Or are they basically interchangeable?

"Tha deagh mhadainn ann" vs "'S e deagh mhadainn a th'ann"?

You could use either or here. Tha describes it as a good day, 'S e identifies it. 'S e is more emphatic.
