So what's the difference between the "madainn mhath" and "deagh mhadainn"? Can they be used interchangeably, or are there slight differences in meaning?

Is it improper to say: Tha madainn mhath ann?

As I understand it : Madainn mhath is the only way to wish someone good morning.
