Who thinks Duolingo should get a new voice???

I have trouble a lot when I am doing a new level. And when I get questions wrong it is mostly when I am listening for what to write!!!!!

True, the Italian voice is very bad. Spanish is much better.

I agree, the Italian voice is terrible. Technically. Should be corrected. The German voice is great, though.

You get used to her after a while, and you learn to think about what she should be saying, based on number, gender, subject, etc. I think my listening skills might have improved because of her!

I couldn't agree more. By making it difficult for us (Through bad anunciation) it makes us have to rely on our knowledge, Vocabulary, grammar and other stuff! - Brilliant!

I desagree because for me the biggest problem it's the recognition of our voice, if I have problem to understand the sound I put in the lower speed.

Is the voice just a machine? Or a human?

July 16, 2014

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/maddyis7

All the voices, in all the languages are 'machine' - 'computer generated', but you get to feel like they must be real people, after a while, because they seem so familiar.

I would have thought that it would have been technically easier to use 'real' human voices. But who knows?

Maybe, one day, they will be,

That's what I thought. That one of the Things the incubators did was to record the words and the sentences ... Since the 's' follows the 'avons' in the end of 'vous'. But I must not be into what machines can do .__.

You should see some of the comments about our Italian 'girl' - not one of the languages that you are studying - She gets nicknamed 'Orgasm Girl'

You can listen for yourself, to find out why :)

I have. lol.

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/maddyis7

Oh yes. I have just seen an Italian Flag with level 3 registered by your name. But you need to go a bit further and listen to the 'Tortoise version' , when the 'girl' pronounces " รจ " and then you'll fully understand. lol :)

The Italian voice sounds so staticky sometimes!

July 16, 2014

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/dole.b

Just remember to slow it down and if you get it wrong, next time you know what to listen for. Besides, native speakers can be a LOT faster and may have thicker accents than Duolingo voices. It is realistic practice :)

I'm replying to dole.b,

But if we learn it like that some people might speak fluently and perfectly, when all people on Duolingo are learning to pronounce the language wrong!!! By the way I am 10 years old just to let you know!!!

Trouble with the Italian voice is that she doesn't always say the same thing in slow mode. A particular hazard is that she often says una when she should say un.

July 16, 2014

I have a lot Italian friends so I can get over the accent, but the recordings are sometimes really hard to understand, that's the biggest problem I have.

July 15, 2014

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/SophieHel

Yeah! I hardly get any of my recording right!

The French voice isn't so bad, but the Italian one is kind of obnoxious! :)

July 15, 2014

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/maddyis7

What is far worse, is if you try a 'reverse course' I tried it in Italian. It gave me the daunting task of having to reply in English. Well, English is fairly new to me; just 50 years, from birth, and It didn't recognise a single word I said! :)

I have great difficulty with the Italian voice all the time. It is often impossible to tell what the initial consonant is, and often the slow version sounds completely different to the fast version. We are supposed to be learning, not guessing. The German Duolingo voice is much, much clearer.

I think they should have male and female voice! (do they already have that?)

I think it should get a new language. I get at least half of my Italian wrong because I can't understand the woman that's saying it. I think it should change to a more clearer voice that I can understand her.

July 15, 2014

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/JBiamme

you can turn off autoplay in the settings, it helps! if you would like to listen then you can click the speaker icon. if you turn off speakers in the settings menu it also takes out those types of questions.

July 16, 2014

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/SophieHel

I know but that doesn't really help! Because you want to learn who to pronounce the words properly. And just turning it off doesn't really help at all! I want to learn how to pronounce the words properly, and I think lots of others do too. So that's why I want Duolingo to get a new voice!!!!!!!!!

July 16, 2014

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/Christine1999

Dunno, it's true that the voice is weird and discourages a lot of Italian course newbies, but I got used to it and I don't have a problem understanding it, especially when I slow it down. To be honest, if a speaker would be changed, I'd seriously miss the old one. And, you know, in real life no one speaks perfectly clearly, so maybe it's better to get used to it now.

I don't think that the pronunciation is wrong, it's just sometimes unclear. And I didn't mean to be offensive, so if you took it this way, I apologize. I was just saying, what I think.

Yeah, when I heard her, I started to suspect that all the languages are pronounced wrong by the same "robot" lady. I ended up messing up a lot because of her pronnunciation.
