I Finally got my 365 day streak!
I've done Duolingo for many years and the highest streak I ever got before was 11 days. Every time I lost my small streak I would be very disappointed and I would give up. I am in credibly happy that I got up to a year and I hope that all of you are doing good too! Good Luck!!!
Congratulations! I hope you and others take advantage of the Streak Freeze option (to buy in the Shop).
I only mention it because when I first started Duolingo, I couldn't keep a streak going for long. Plus at that time, you had to finish your daily goal, not just a lesson or story, for a day to count. After a month or two, I discovered Streak Freeze, which is well worth the few lingots it costs.
For those who are unfamiliar with it, Streak Freeze will give you a pass if you miss one day. Once you use it, you have to buy another, but it's great to have.
I even went for a whole year w/o using one, at one point.
Anyway, good job on your streak! Keep it up!
Congrats! I have been there before and I can imagine what and how you are feeling now. the thing I want to say is that it is very important even if you make a small achievement. Keep it up. I will give you a lingot!
You get a badge. Here is a list of the badge requirements:
Wildfire - reaching different levels by days on a streak - level 10 is at 365 days
Sage - you earn levels for achieving XP and level 10 is at 30,000 XP
Scholar - is based on new words that you learn in one course - level 10 is 2,000 words
Regal - is based on crowns earned in a course the top level 10 is 100 crowns
Champion - is where you are in the leagues. So level 10 is achieved when you enter the diamond league.
Sharpshooter - is on completing lessons with no mistakes. The top level (5) is completed on 100 lessons. These are not all in a row:)
Conqueror - get every skill in a course gold or to level 5. This is a deceptive one as the levels go 1/2, 2/3, 3/4 as you move up. But ALL have to be completed.
Winner - Just win one league one time.
Legendary - You need to finish #1 in the Diamond League
Strategist - read a tip
Friendly - you followed 3 friends
Weekend Warrior - you completed a lesson on Saturday and Sunday
Photogenic - you added a profile picture
I hope that helps everyone? Conquerer is the most confusing.
Bon Travail! :) Felicitations! :) It's NOT easy keeping up every day doing a lesson and with more than one language it would be that much harder so, GREAT JOB! :) I hope to add Esperanto, Italian and High Valyrian as I do Esperanto and just started Italian on memrise today since my Italian tutor cancelled our private lessons due to covid-19, However, I love Sicilian I'm doing on there and this will be fun with it. :) I will be doing Russian one on one in the fall and then will do that on here then. :) I look forward to adding these languages to lessons here on Duolingo. :) I hope to one day get back into German but, right now with what I'm learning on Memrise and "refreshing" my french, that's plenty! :) You're doing great! Keep the spirit! :) Bonne Chance et merci pour la publication! :)
When I first started Doulingo, I couldnt keep a streak longer than a week, but since I had a lot of lingots, I decided to buy a streak freeze, and when it saved me from losing a 25 day streak I was HOOKED. I finally hit 100 almost a month ago and cant wait to hit 365 one day. That streak freeze really changed everything and motivated me to get that number higher.
Congratulations, that's very impressive! My longest streak was 103 days! It shows that you are dedicated, I wonder how many days you have used Duolingo in total?
Also, is your name really Loveday?! I have seen that name before when doing my family tree and I think it is a very pretty name! :)
When I started I lost my streak at 460 days:( I quit Duolingo for 8 months feeling sorry for myself. Then I had a class of students doing French and I started again with them. As you can see it is now a much bigger streak than the one I lost. You can do it!! Also if you do lose your streak you can get it back with Duolingo plus now. This was not an option for me when I lost mine:(
Congrats!! I have been trying to keep up my streak for a long time too! I would always try the Seven-Day wager, but after sometime, I would see the notification: Lost the wager! I have been so tired of seeing this. I am really happy to see that so many others people are able to reach such high streaks!! So proud!! :')
Let me put it this way: you could have one person who devotes one hour a day, Mo-Fr to Duolingo. The other, 5 minutes Mo-Mo. So one person would devote 5 hours a week, the other one, little more than half hour. So what one learns in one day, the other one wouldn't learn it in a whole week. Yet, the first person will never surpass a 5-day streak, while the other can get a 365+ streak. Who do you think that learns the most? That's why I say, streaks don't mean anything to me (and shouldn't mean much to anybody). Sadly, this is the most frequent topic in the discussions thread (just see to your right)... Nonesense seems to get the most followers all the time...
I am afraid your logic doesn't work for me. It is about consistency in your learning so every day helps a lot! It also means that the learning becomes a habit. I must do my French or Spanish or German. Achieving high XP, keeping a streak going, or any other accomplishment should be celebrated, NOT belittled. As a school teacher, I appreciate seeing people cheering each other on and I feel people should keep negative comments off a forum. So from me:
Way to Go everyone on all milestones accomplished!!!
I am afraid your logic doesn't work for me. So a worker who works 8 to 5, Mo-Fr, is not consistent, as it is expected to work 24/7/365. NONSENSE. I am for rooting for great causes (i.e. completing a tree), but as shown below, you can keep a streak doing very little (e.g. 10 points a day), so in one year that person would have the equivalent of completing one tree. Does that sound like a great accomplishment for you? One tree in one year? Consistency is part of the deal, but consistency alone won't take you far. You can be consistent in doing too little... Now, if you want to root for mediocrity, be my guest. Btw, I don't get how being a school teacher is relevant for the discussion. Motivation is across the board, even if you work at a Mc Donalds. Keep in mind that most of the people who writes here are adults, not kids that need a happy face and a star to keep going, for God's sake...
Some people have very little time and getting even a little done is an accomplishment. And especially keeping that up for a year! Being a schoolteacher is relevant because she teaches kids and enjoys seeing people working together in a team and congratulating each other. No one said that people needed a happy face and a star. When someone completes something that they are proud they achieved, it's nice to have people cheer you on and celebrate your achievement. When someone says something you can just say good job or if you don't like their comment then you can just stay off that chat and not say anything nasty. If you are going to be rude then don't do it here. You are being overly rude and trying to ruin peoples happiness over their success. Get over yourself.
