I would like some more friends to compete with in Spanish!

It doesn't matter what level you're at I'd really just appreciate a few more followers that are trying to learn Spanish! I'll follow you back of course! It would also be beneficial for any and all of us that want to learn this language thanks!!

How does my decision to follow you help you to learn Spanish? I don't get it.

My guess is that on the sidebar of the homepage there is a weekly, monthly and all time XP leaderboards. It helps some people to have competition with so they can try and do better than them.

The leaderboards show him people that he is following. And the "Activity" tab also only shows him people he is following. If I follow him, it makes no difference (to him and his learning) that I know of. Following others can be a great motivator, but I'm unaware of any way that having someone follow you can help you. If there's some hidden gem I'm not aware of I want to know about it!

Sorry about that! Forgot it was the other way round. In that case I'm not sure what it would do to help then.

If you read what I said then you would have noticed that when you follow me I will follow you back! As sort of a competition. If you don't see any fun in that then oh well haha! I was also thinking later down the line we could try to have conversations in spanish! But I wouldn't really say I'm ready for that yet!

Okay I see how that makes sense. When I wanted some kind of motivation I just followed people with a long streak and tried to keep up with them. I didn't really care if they followed me or not. But I am self-motivated and have never been a person who does better with a partner (like at the gym or whatever). I usually do better by myself. So you and I are just motivated differently. Plus, I have to admit, I've seen way too many new folks come on here saying "Give me some lingots!" and "Hey, follow me!" and they weren't at all serious about learning. So that is actually a bit of a turn-off for me. Best of luck with your studies. If you hang out here long enough I guarantee you will eventually find some folks that just resonate with you. You're on the right track.
