Memorizing vs. Retaining

Does anyone feel like the repetitive nature makes it easy to pass the skills without retaining the information? In school I tend to cram until my brain hurts, use the information to pass the test, and then it’s like it never happened. I’m a Level 8 in Spanish and I got the little pop-up telling me I should now be able to read 51% of Spanish text. I panicked a little bit because I tried to read a few articles and I was only picking up on key words, not really processing the content of the sentences in their entirety. Anyone having similar issues or know any tricks to help retain the information?

Here is your paragraph above with 51% of the words being known:

Does _ the _ it _ to the _ without the _? In I to _ my _, use the to _ the , and _ it’s it _ . I’m a _ 8 in and I _ the - me I now be to 51% of _ . I _ a little _ I to read a _ and I _ only up on _ , not _ the _ of the in their _. _ or _ any to help the __?

So, although know can 51% percent of the words, it can still be really had to get any context.
