I was trying to translate His grandfather is asleep!

We never use the words grootvader/-moeder. We say opa/oma.

Funny, he doesn't look sheepish

...that would make him at least one quarter sheep wouldn't it?

Or it would make him at least one quarter Welsh...

Unless he's a sheep himself...

Well my grandpa is a G.O.A.T. so hah (greatest of all time)

En zijn grootmoeder stinkt van vlierbessen!

I feel this is a reference to something. Am I missing something or is vlierbessen 'elderberryberry'?

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/AnUnicorn

Yeah. It's a riff on a Monty Python reference. The original quote was "your mother was a hamster, and your father smells of elderberries!"

But since the Duo phrase is calling your grandfather a type of animal, I had to make your grandmother the one who smells of elderberries instead.

Ah, OK. I'm still waiting for the Esperanto course to have a Red Dwarf quote in it so I can die happy.

Ĉu vi frenezas? Ĉu vi serioze supozas ke mi portas grizan el sezono? Mi preferus pendigi.

Brilliant. The Cat is the king of cool. What would, 'Innards and lavender... I can carry that off!' or 'Flames and peach? Oooh, I'd rather die.' be?

Shouldn't it be "zijn grootmoeder stinkt naar vlierbessen"?

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/terneuzen

It can be true in Wales :))

Are zijn grootvader and de grootvader van hem equivalent?

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/WappyJohnn

Yes but don't use "de grootvader van hem", it is very unnatural.

Is this the same farmer with the odd amount of fingers and toes?
