Can't change my email

    I haven't been using Duolingo for a while, and I forgot all my account information, so I decided to create a new account that my current email address was linked up to. I then discovered that I could retrieve my account info from my old account. I did that, but then I found out that the old account was linked up to my old email. I deactivated my new account, and now I'm trying to change the email address in my account to my current email address, however it says that *@outlook.com (my current email address) is already taken. As I said earlier, I deactivated my other account, now why is this popping up? Can somebody help me please?

    Deactivating an account does not free up the email address in order to use it on another account. Follow these steps to switch your current email address to your old account:

    • Log in to your new account (with the email address you want to use). It will automatically reactivate on successful login.
    • Change the email address of that account to something else.
    • Deactivate again.
    • Change the email address on your old account to your current address.
