What is wrong with "La bouteille possède un volume de deux litres" ?

It means more or less The bottle owns a volume of two liters.

La bouteille possède un volume de deux litres. Rejected. In another similar sentence, Un carre possede quatre cotes egaux. "possede" was accepted. Can someone tell me the difference between these two items why "possede" is accepted in one and not in the other? Thanks
