I just finished my Spanish tree!!! ;-)

I've just finished my Spanish tree 2 mins ago! I started 96 days ago and have managed to maintain my streak while finishing the tree. I would like to thank everyone at DL and everyone in the discussion and comment section that have helped, encouraged, entertained and amused me in the last 96 days. I am by no means done with Spanish. I plan to identify the units that I'm weakest in and keep at it until it sticks. I also plan to take some classes here in London in September and then book a week or two at a language school in Spain by next April!

DL is the best language learning app/software ever, even though I did become frustrated at times for loosing a precious heart, but I never let it deter me. I have tried learning Spanish with a very well known software before but I gave up very quickly. DL is so addictive and I also find that my brain agrees with the DL way! I just couldn't help myself from doing the exercises.

Thank you DL and long may my streak lasts!

Congrats. Make sure to keep doing your streak. Also try speaking languages. Continue learning Spanish and learn new languages if you want. And remember everyone, if you lose a heart in alesson do not feel bed. You can only get better.

Exactly and i believe that after you get more familiar with a specific language you should focus more on communication with others who speak the same language either in real life or online; that way you will get better instead of get rusty.

You're right...I will do a class after the summer holiday for some face to face contact time and then will think about spending time at a language school in Spain for total immersion.

immersion really is the best way! It forces you to think about what you need to say because they won't understand any other way. My boyfriend speaks almost exclusively in Spanish now. I try and respond completely in Spanish, and if I make a mistake he explains why it's wrong, and what to say.

Hi everyone, thank you for all the 'well-dones' and 'congratulations' messages. I wouldn't say that I'm fluent and I don't have any Spanish speakers around me to truly test my speaking and understanding of the language when spoken by native speakers. However, since I started on DL some 90 something days ago, I've been listening to a Spanish radio station on my phone (I made a point of listening to it at least 15 to 20mins a day), in particular a regional Madrid radio station called Cadena Ser. I've noticed that I'm able to understand more of what is said on the radio. I now have a very good idea of the topic of conversation and have on occasions (very rare though!) chuckled at some funny things that have been said. I still have a long way to go and I have no intention of stopping now ;-)

You might want to try italki to practice speaking. http://www.italki.com/partners?src=italki-footer#learn=englishspeak=spanishnative=1page=1

Recommending www.memrise.com (for vocabulary practice) once got me 20 lingots! Be sure to check for errors on memrise since most of the content is made by users. I have other advice (such as other sites) I am happy to share. If you respond to this post and ask I will be happy to share them.

I think now you should practice real/live communicating with other Spanish speakers and try to listen to more Spanish programs/music and read books and works on your pronunciation. Good luck! and i hope you get better

Well...that's the trouble with learning on a computer...you don't have anyone else to share your excitement with and you'll end up imposing it on other people on the discussion section!!! Whether they like it or not........;-)

Congrats! Can I ask, how many lessons (roughly) did you do a day to get it done in 96 days?

https://www.duolingo.com/azis2014

Hi there, I can't really say for definite how many lessons a day I did. I've done up to 15 lessons a day (normally on Saturdays or Sundays) and at least 3 lessons a day during the week. Some units are easier than others which I'm sure is the same to you.

I'm new here... what's a tree?

https://www.duolingo.com/azis2014

Hi there....a newbie!!! A tree is all of the units/skill for your chosen language from top to bottom. If you look at the unit in its entirety...it looks a bit like a tree! Well...close enough anyway...Good luck with 'climbing' your Spanish tree!

Congrats! :) few other ways to keep your skills sharp: download few movies in Spanish (if possible - with the subtitles) and see if you have a clue what they are talking about. Also, take some song in Spanish, then listen if you understand what it is about; then get the lyrics, try to translate them; and then sing along (maybe it's not the best way to work on your pronunciation but it's fun, especially if you like singing) ;)
