A lot of repetition - accident or change

By way of example I have just completed the Friends practice lesson and then in review, I counted 6 exercises that were repeated within the 20 overall. I have been noticing this change over the last several days in many segments of the course with some lessons having less repetition and others more. Is this a change in design or a programming glitch?

Were they exactly the same? I can imagine getting one three times: you got a sentence in French and were asked to translate it into English. You got the same sentence in English and translated into French. You had "speak into the mic" exercise. Six times seems a bit much.

Out of curiosity, I just tried the Friends lesson. I got each of the following three times, in various formats:

alice et paul, vous cuisinez ?

marc et julia, vous parlez français ?

No, in my case each of the exercises were exactly the same - not testing different skills. What was also strange was that the first 16 were all listening exercises and that is where the repeats were.

That seems strange. I guess I haven't experienced that yet.

Depending on the skills, many do not have a lot of different listening exercises. I've certainly noticed I'm being asked a lot more "repeat what you hear"/ "speak what you read" questions this week than normal - I wonder if they have tweaked the balance of read/write and speak/listen questions and in doing so have left fewer options for the questions to be picked from, thereby accidentally resulting in more repetition.

I have had a different sort of "glitch" twice today. I got through about 11 or 12 of the 20 sentences, then I got the pause where it says "por favor, espere..." then it was finished. 15 easy points. (I'm working on Catalan so the instructions are in Spanish. I think the English version says "please wait...") It was weird. I am certain that I did not get to the end of the set. The little gold progress bar was only a little over halfway across when that happened. Definitely some sort of weird malfunction, and it happened twice today. So something is off.

Okay, the problem I mentioned seems only to be affecting the Catalan course. It is still happening today, consistently now in every lesson. Several others have commented on it today but they all say that it is not happening in their other courses.

Hello, I notice that recently I've had ONLY translations from French (my target language) to English in practice mode. It should the other way round; at least a few sentences to translate from English to French. I feel that I am wasting my time doing these English translations, while what I need the most is to practise French.

We need both but as the learning progresses there should be more focus on english to french

Now all I have to do is to write English sentences :( What's wrong ?

The questions are randomly selected from a bank of questions for each skill. Random selections can sometimes work like that - other times there will be no repetition at all. Some of the newer skills seem to have a smaller subset of available questions, so more repetition is inevitable - sometimes I've even had exactly the same question, in the same format, immediately follow a correctly answered one in the newer exercises. I think the tree was extended a little too early in those newer skills.

Thanks for your thoughts but over the years this level of repetition hasn't happened. Occasionally as you suggest so that's why I asked the question about a possible programming glitch

In a couple of todays randomly selected practice lessons - City2 and Food2 - both had 3 repeat listening exercises in the format: write what you hear. Does anyone know how to communicate what is clearly a programming problem to Duo?

Repetition is a great way to end prize better. I’d assume that is what Duolingo was trying to do.
