#Latin Moment! Day Six

Learn Latin, work out the brain! The brain is a muscle, right?

Most medical words have Latin roots, but the root of muscle has a stranger story. It comes from the Latin word "musculus," which is a diminutive of the word "mus," which means mouse. So muscle comes from the Latin word for little mouse. Perhaps the Romans thought that certain muscles appeared to be mice under the skin! It's a bit disturbing if you think about it.

i love these :D

Did Homer really make that discovery ... and include it in his writing? o.O

I'm just teasing. :) That certainly is a fascinating possibility!

Speaking of ... the word 'fascinating' comes from Latin 'fascino, fascinare', to cast a spell on or bewitch. I thought that was awesome. :D

Best of luck with Latin!
