I had "It's rather wet", I'd have been happy with "it's a bit wet". Why are those not acceptable translations?

Isn't "caran" an adjective to wet - describing wet. Why isn't "fliuch" lenited ?

In English, 'somewhat' would be used for understated sarcasm, for example if you arrived somewhere soaked to the bone. Would caran be used in the same context?
