Why could it not be zitten instead of staan?

I have the same question. Why is it "Hij zit ertussen." but "Wij staan hiertussen."?

There is a big inconsistency between this exercise and the similar phrase "ik sta ertussen". Here the "correct" answer translating from Dutch to English is "are we in here" and not "are we between it" But in the other sentence, DL requires an answer with "in between" and "I am in it" is rated wrong. Please, DL, make up your mind about whether you want a literal translation or something else, or better, get a bit less restrictive about which is right and which is wrong.
