Neuf vs Nouveau

What is the difference between the two forms of 'new' and why does one come before the noun and the other after the noun. For example nouveau/nouvelle and plurals come before the noun (j'ai une nouvelle voiture), but the neuf/neuve come after (j'ai des vetements neufs). Can someone help me understand why this is and when to use each one? Thanks.

Neuf is used only for things that are objectively new (brand new, newly made, etc), and nouveau for things that are subjectively new (new to a neighbourhood, etc) - and that also explains why nouveau goes before (as with other subjective adjectives such as pretty - objective adjectives, where there is no judgement call involved, go after)

Bonjour ! Je suis française donc je te répondrais en français...

    ★ Nouveau

-- se place généralement avant le nom

    -- signifie différent d’avant

-- s’écrit nouvel devant un nom commençant par une voyelle et nouvelle devant un nom féminin.

-- le contraire de nouveau est ancien

    ★ Neuf

-- se place après le nom

    -- signifie fabriqué récemment

-- s’utilise uniquement pour les objets

    -- le féminin est neuve

    -- le contraire est vieux

    J'espère que je vous aurais aidé ! Bon après-midi à tous !

"J'ai une nouvelle voiture" means you have a new car, but it may be a car you bought to someone, who bought it to someone... It's new for you but the car itself is used.

"J'ai une voiture neuve" means you have a new car that is actually new, you are the first one to have it. In a context of auctions, it could even be a very old car but that no one ever drove, so technically it is "neuve", not used, not second or third hand.
