The root of ainmeil looks like it could stem from ainm, (name, recognition, famous).

It is ainm name, fame + -ail (in its slender version -eil, from Middle Irish -amhail, an adjectival suffix).

Its direct Irish equivalent is ainmniúil ‘nominal; well-known’, although the meaning differs, and typical word for famous in Irish would rather be cáiliúil instead. ;-)
