Does anyone know, is "vraiment très" a common phrase in French? "Really very" sounds awkward in English.

This doesn't sound odd too me. In fact, I think it's really very normal.

I like to say it as "truly very...", makes it sound better to me and fits.

"really very strong"?

In English it implies he is very strong, but doesn't appear to be, which I suspect this isn't the sense of the French original. However, happy to be corrected.
