This sentence sounds like something that might be overheard at the gay bar. Is there also the same slang for bear as a hariy gay man in the Netherlands?

Not that I know of, but I have to admit I'm not very familiar with slang used within the LGBTQ+ community. It's quite possible :)

  • Beer: /bɪːr/ The 'ee' sounds like the 'i' from 'ik'. (In Flanders and the Southern parts of the Netherlands it's pronounced as: /beːr/ The 'ee' sounds like 'ee' from 'eet'.)
  • Bier: /bir/ The 'ie' sounds like the 'ie' from 'vier'.

Thanks. On a different note, my father is dutch and disagrees on the way the speaker says 'eet'. But then it's also possible he's been in South Africa too long :)
