Why isn't "how goes it" considered correct? People say that in English too. I get a lot of these...

I don't understand the dutch translation of this sentence. Can somebody explain it please?
Personally I interpreted it as 'How is it going with our two boys'
In english (english) we might say, "how are things with our two boys" - but this isn't accepted. Would this translate okay for Dutch speakers?

Kun je ook schrijven: "How is it with our two boys?"
Would "How is it going with our two boys?" be OK?
