Pocoyó will improve your Spanish skills in a blink of an eye. All hail the Pocoyó!

We all know that when it comes to learn a new language one of the most important things to do is training our ears as well and get them used to the sound of the above-mentioned language.

That's why I started to watch this preschool cartoon suggested to me by a friend and called "Pocoyó". You can easily find it on YouTube. It changed my life! Plus, it's available in a lot of languages, not only Spanish.

Here's the channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/pocoyotv

Thank you! This is so enjoyable! The double translation is very helpful and certainly more appropriate for a first approach, but I have to admit that sometimes I find it quite dispersive. Too much on your plate if you're not an English native speaker! Pocoyó, on the other hand, offers a full linguistic immersion. That's why I chose it in the first place. But it's always good to have several options!

But for native English speakers (like me), it helps to have the English thrown in if you don't feel like you know what's going on at first.

That's because of the catchy songs, isn't it? Confess! :D

Let's just stop for a while and think how amazing is this. These guys created a funny cartoon specifically for little children, in order to entertain them and, at the same time, teach them something in a comforting way. And now, a bunch of grown ups are totally into it, like learning a new language could really mean that you've to start a new life from the beginning, from an imaginary linguistic childhood. This is great, seriously.

I started with Pocoyo, and the nice thing about it is that it tends to use short sentences. The downside is that there's a LOT of time where they're doing something and not talking at all. When you're doing well with Pocoyo try Peppa Pig or Caillou. They also speak relatively slowly, but there is more conversation.

Si, es cierto. Se necesita usar el verbo "estar" cuando se dice "estoy bailando". No se puede decir "soy bailando". Siempre use "estar".

Ha! That's adorable actually. At first I thought "groan... a kids show" but still checked it out because, hey, gotta improve my listening and kids stuff is basic and educational so it's actually perfect for what I need. Glad I did. It's actually enjoyable to watch.

Thanks for the recommendation. Lingot to you!

haha, that's funny! only thing is they use Spain's vosotros so I got a little caught on a word or two.

I think this is because Pocoyó was originally created in Spain. But if you take a closer look at the channel, you'll find a different version for América Latina: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLD0AADC44B5ABA2B4 . They've thought of everything!
