Just two. English and Spanish. My Spanish needs a lot of work though, not as fluent as I used to be
Would you say completing the trees get you a good knowledge of the language though?
I had majored in Spanish in college long before Duolingo, so the higher levels of the tree were really a review for me. Duolingo functions best as an introduction to the basic structure of any given language for absolute beginners. I do have more of a knowledge of other less popular languages than I did before, however.
Yes we are, but in the mean time, I found your Memrise lessons extremely helpful. Not only that, but the layout and structure is first rate. :)
Farsi (Persian) is my mother language and I would be so glad to help Duolingo to add and improve it. When even Valyrian language exists in the incubator, it is so disappointing that there is not even an incubator course in Persian (Farsi) or for Persian speakers.
please do! It is my mother tongue as well but I don't speak it very well so I need to practice and learn more!
I am an Iranian born Canadian. I am married to someone who does not speak Farsi but my kids have shown a strong interest in learning Farsi. I am re-learning my French through Duolingo and find it to be an excellent way to learn a language. It would be amazing to have our kids learn Farsi on Duolingo!
e add Farsi to your languages It is a very interesting language and has so many speakers it deserves to be here
pleas do add Persian /Farsi. I am greatly willing to contribute as well. :) tnx
Then please start contributing. If nobody does that, nothing will happen. That's how it works.
i wanna ..but they have to put it on site category..unless they do so i cannot apply..
You can apply for languages that don’t have a course yet. I applied for English to Latin today, despite there not being a Latin course available
Very much feel Farsi is appropriate. Extremely good language for learning in both cultural as well as national security aspects. There are many people who can contribute to improvement of nuclear escalation risk if communication expands between the two countries as well.
It's in incubator and just got it's first contributor the other day. :-)
Dari! As in Farsi spoken in Afghanistan! <3 I would really like to learn it proper, and I love Duolingo!
Hi, I'm a Spanish speaker living in Toronto, Canada. I live in a neighborhood where many people are from Iran, my best friends at the English school are Iranians. I have more Iranians friends than latino friends. We are the same persons, only the language is our difference. I love my friends, my central Asia brothers.
Farsi please. My husband is Persian and it would help so much to have Duolingo to help me learn the language.
How many days do you plan to do this? If you constantly repoll, people will lose interest in participating. This is why DuolingoReddit only does a poll every 4 months or so.
Since (AFAIK) Krispykracker started these polls, it seems unfair for others to jump on the bandwagon and queer his pitch with constant polls.
Good point. Looking at all the votes now I simply can't understand how Esperanto could get on top. It's pretty clear that Farsi is the language that has most requests, no competition.
Farsi would be awesome to see on here. This poll may be finished but if it affects anything I vote Farsi!
FARSI PLEASE (:
Wow I loved this, great post, ill definetely check out the short film, my Name is Hrak and I am Armani. My parents are from tehran and i have like 100 words of persian under my belt. Like aslan alanan masalan farzan, akhlagh, pedar, madar, dast, dastam, am, va, man, shoma, siasat, maraz, nemidoonam, midoonam, nisti, hasti, cardam, balkeh, piaz, gojeh, ghormeh sabzi etc etc random words I would love to learn farsi through Duo Lingo, ill comment through your link let me know what else i can do heres my email email@example.com
Farsi. it's difficult as writing and speaking have significant differences, but it sounds beautiful and there is a long history behind it.
the same exact thing could be said about the Armani (;
well not as beautiful....
Armani is beautiful, too. It will be really cool if they can add both of these languages
but ... When?
how wan't learn farsi add my skype for exchange our language firstname.lastname@example.org
Please bring Farsi ..some of the world's greatest literature and poems were in farsi and I want farsi should be among the languages I want on board here for learning...!
I would love to learn Farsi . My boss is Iranian and I want to surprise her. She managed to speak fluently Dutch in a very short time so ......... Teach me Farsi!
I know i bit of Farsi language . It is as sweet as French sometimes Again, Iran has a great role these days in politics, military and economics which increases the importance of Farsi as well
i also want to learn farsi on duolingo because its a best site to learn language fast. I always opened just to check when will you add Farsi language on your site and today i saw this vote procedure and very much interested to see farsi language on your board. hope i can learn through your site.
Another request for Persian here! I'm attending a Persian course at the moment and I can confirm that the grammar (so far) is very regular and quite easy to understand. Also, the slightly modified Arabic script it uses is logical and not difficult to learn (a bonus for anyone who might want to also learn Arabic afterwards, I guess). Not to mention Persian is beautiful to the ear ;)
Also, I would not mind also adding Romanian. I think it's a beautiful language, with some specific features compared to the other Romance languages. Then again, as a native speaker, I might be subjective ;)
I'm native to Persian, and would say that a Persian course would be amazing. Persian grammar is really only regular is standard Persian, wish I went to Persian school to learn it. I only know colloquial Persian, which is pretty regular, but not as much as the standard version.
I'll give an example with the biggest irregularity when it comes to verbs
Standard Persian: Verb To Want
Mi-khaaham Mi-khaahi Mi-khaahad Mi-Khaahim Mi-khaahid Mi-khaahand
Colloquial Persian: Verb To Want
Mi-khaam Mi-khaai Mi-khaad Mi-khaaim Mi-khaaid Mi-khaan
There are two problems with that. Firstly, Duolingo has gotten many requests for Persian natives to contribute to a course, but still hasn't done anything with it. Me giving in one more request won't change a thing.
Secondly, I'm only native to Persian in the sense that I speak it, because my parents speak it. I basically have a first grader's reading and writing ability in Persian, which says a lot about how weak I am in those forms of communication, as I'm currently in 10th grade. Reading and writing apart, my Persian is mainly good at listening, I'm relatively good at speaking, but a true native speaker (one from Iran) would immediately be able to detect that I wasn't taught Persian in a formal environment, mostly from my accent (which is described as English (which would make sense)) and choice of words.
In fact of I don't know the true Persian verb for something, I just take the English verb and follow it with the Persian verb "To Do"
Example with "To exercise"
Exercise mi-konam Exercise mi-koni Exercise mi-kone Exercise mi-konim Exercise mi-konid Exercise mi-konan
Hi all I'm a native persian. when i first used duolingo, i stopped practicing after a few weeks. but now that i started again using this application, i find it so good and helping. Now I'm using it to learn Turkish, and i was wondering how this data and information is given without any price. i search and found about language incubators. it is fantastic idea, and will help lots of people around the world.
I think, all of people that are using this app should participate for creating new courses, and i want to this with all of my heart.
I hope, it would help human being found more about themselves and connect each other. we will help to create courses about farsi / persian
Love you PERSIA
Persian is a VERY important language in the world today. One of the highly advanced civilizations of our time and becoming more and more influential in the middle east. Besides that, it is an Indo-European language with scads of cognates of English, French, German, etc and is relatively easy to learn (after you get around learning their modified Arabic alphabet.) That is my vote.
Please add Persian /Farsi to the list of languages as I'd love to practice my new found language skills on my Iranian boyfriend. Thank you :)
Learning Farsi would help people understand Rumi poets, so please put it on duolingo please :)
I was recently assigned to work on Iranian issues as part of my job. I try to achieve a basic level of language proficiency for whichever part of the globe I am working on, since knowing the language does so much more than simply enable you to speak. Historical and cultural context is often lost in translation, so having even a basic level of language proficiency can really improve your understanding of the people in a certain region. It would be nice if DuoLingo offered Farsi so that I could start learning/practicing here. In the meantime, I will have to find online resources elsewhere :(
I think Farsi, would be so great to have on here!!! It is a beautiful sounding language, with lots of interesting culture and art. I think people would enjoy their gradual mastery from duolingo of this language
Please add Farsi, I am studying it now in my university, but i would love to have extra practice. It's a gorgeous language.
Duolingo is very great app to learn a new language. Please add Farsi (Persian) to duolingo
Farsi, It has been voted many times as the most emotive and loving language of the world. Please add it to Duolingo!
Please put persian on duolingo! My dad speaks it and I want to learn it too!
farsi! As a native speaker i would love for my language to get more recognition. I would definitely contribute as well.
persian / farsi for english speakers please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
FARSI <3 its beautiful and a lot of people want it and would contribute :D
I really think Farsi deserves more attention as there are so many people who want to learn a new language but can only speak Persian❤️
I've been learning and I do not understand why Persian is not already on here!
Farsi must become a language included on Doulingo. So many people would love to learn it.
Farsi! (Persian), there are a lot of us who would like to learn it! متشکرم
Please add Persian( Farsi). At least add English for Persian speakers, I'm having a hard time finding a way for my mom to learn English.
Please persian-english and english-persian, both of them. I love Turkish-Persian and persian-Turkish, too.
I'd love to learn Farsi. As a community health worker I care for many seniors who are Farsi speakers with very limited English.
Persian is missing in Duolingo, A fine poetic language, even more than french believe me.
Persian please. im a native speaker and i would love to contribute to the farsi course
Please do! My family is from Afghanistan so I understand Farsi/Dari for the most part but I still have a lot to learn!
Duolingo, Please, PLEASE, add Persian (Farsi) for English speakers very soon, in either Latin or Arabic script. As you can see from the more than 500 comments, there is tremendous interest in this beautiful language. Thank you!
I am wating for Persian! Please give me persian. I will give you all my Lingots
I'm posting in this ancient thread on the off chance it's still relevant, because a recent comment in another thread said the votes here count for something...
So: Farsi, lotfan!
I would love to see Persian/Farsi on DuoLingo. It is a major language with worldwide cultural and political importance and more speakers than at least a dozen other languages already offered on DuoLingo. There are a a number of languages I would like to see added (Bengali, Tagalog, Serbo-Croatian, etc.), but I think Persian needs to be added first, and people have been applying to contribute to a Persian course for over 4 years now. Isn't it about time?
FARSI! There are Star Wars languages here and not a real antique language as Farsi
Iran have 80M people. please add Persian language . 3 country speak Persian : Iran , Tajikistan , Afghanistan
Yes Persian would be lovely! I hope more people can be exposed to the beauty of my language!!
Yes, I too would like to see Farsi on the list, please. It won't be one of the next two languages I try, but it's a strong contender for the one after that.
Farsi is my native tongue! it'd be rewarding to be able to practice it on duolingo as I only really know how to have conversations but have limited knowledge on more advanced words and phrases (which may come in handy if I ever become a translator)
I also hope Persian will be added. I've learnt it a bit but I want to improve it.
I really want this here too, I speak it but not fluently. I want to learn my home language more.
But how would they do it between Farsi, Dari and Tajik?
Persian literature is unique. Learn Persian, read Persian poems, have a much more beautiful life.
That would be great! I think it is a little overlooked when it comes to languages....
Farsi, which is called also Persian is my mother language and it's a very sweet language which everyone would love learning it! I as an Iranian English teacher am willing to help you with this course
Really want Lithuanian!!! My husband is Lithuanian and we are trying to teach our baby girl the language
please PERSIAN(farsi) PERSIAN persian PERSIAN! there is many people who want learn persian!
Please add Persian/Farsi. This language has 120 native speakers in Iran, Afghanistan and Tajikistan. This Indo-European language also has great poets...
Farsi is also the language of Attar and Hafez and Sadiq, the greatest (with Rumi) of the Persian poets.....It is often spoken in Arabic lands as the "other" language....The oldest cookbooks in the world known to date are in Persian......I would love to learn Farsi and surprise my Persian friends!!!!!!
I vote For Farsi(Persian) !!! Please add this beautiful language.
Very true Farsi is the most romantic and soothing language ever, Duolingo has Klingon, i don't think adding Farsi would be a difficult task. Farsi Please!!
Persian please :) language of Hafiz & Rumi & Omar Khayyam and many more other sophisticated poets
If you want Farsi on Duo, so it's better to ask people in forum to join us here
Farsi (Persian) please! There are so many farsi speaking people in Europe, especially in Sweden and especially in my girlfriend's family, I've been waiting a long time to introduce her to duo lingo so I can teach her Swedish, but won't until I can learn Farsi as well!
Farsi Please...... 100+ million people from Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Tajikistan are talking this language and these countries have one of the highest immigration rates in the world, and English is the universal language any immigrant needs.
Please add Persian (Farsi) ! It's an awesome language, I know the basics, but i would love to practice here in Duolingo
Persian please ! Add Persian ! The people is waiting for this language so much !
I would very much love to see Farsi on duolingo. I know this was an old poll and discussion but has there been any updates or any place here that I could submit my request to duolingo?

Basque. It's completely unlinked to any surviving languages (and we know next to nothing about other extinct languages it is/could be tied to), and probably dates to the Stone Age. It's one of the only remnants of any pre-Indo-European cultures of western Europe we have.
An Indo-European language spoken by 75,000,000 people in Iran as well as an official language in Afghanistan and Tajikstan. The language of poets - Omar Khayyam and Hafez (wine, women and love). Iran: one of the world's great cultures with 17 World Heritage sites.
Iran is one of the countries I most want to visit....was near by last summer (southeast Turkey) but not close enough!
I recommend visitng Shiraz,Esfahan & Yazd! Great history and wonderful architecture! I think you would greatly enjoy it (:
Mohsen Namjoo (classical/jazz/rock fusion musician/activist) has been in residence at Brown U. this semester as a teacher and musician - not far from you in Boston!
Lots of interest in Iran here- culture and politics with a serious study of the country. (Brown U has a fearless middle-eastern studies department.)
Check out www.middleeastbrown.org for upcoming events in 2015. We are only a short and civilized train ride from Boston!
Wow, thank you so much for sharing the information! Very kind of you! I would like to check it out! Thanks! (:
I totally missed this poll by a year but I really want Frisian and Japanese :D
Yeah, I missed it too, but Albanian, Frisian, Farsi, Maldivian, Cornish, Breton and Wolof just to name a few.
Vote for "Finnish on Duolingo".
Duolingo should enable a Finnish language course so that people are able to start learning as soon as possible. Click the above link to vote. Only by sharing the link, will we make progress. Thanks
Please add Persian Language- I estimate it is almost as sweet as the French language
I am interested in learning some Farsi to enrich my friendship with some friends for whom that is their native language.
Please Add Farsi. I speak both Farsi and English, but my kids would both benefit from learning the language.
Add Persian. :) But if you're gonna entitle it "Farsi", don't bother to count my vote.
Farsi has 110 million native speakers and very rich works of literature, please add it to your wonderful learning platform, thank you.
Please create a course for Farsi learners I would also be grateful to help ;)
Please do Farsi/Persian. You will attract a lot of new people if you add this to Duolingo because there are barely any good resources online to study Farsi.
Since 4 years ago, Persian still haven't been among Duolingo languages. Please add this beautiful language.
فارسی خیلی دوست دارم, متشکرم | I like Farsi very much, thank you | Ich mag Farsi sehr <3 Danke
Persian also called Farsi because I have a lot of Persian friends in the United States
I can help, and I really wish to see Farsi for English speakers in Duolingo.
Please add Persian language because beside all those great and lovely resources in Persian like the poems we all know, there are many people interested in learning more about Iran, Afghanistan and Tajikistan and all the history and background related to a big land once named Persia. As an Iranian teaching English, I would surely help to make a course of Persian language.
Voting here for Farsi/Persian.
Would love to be able to work on that here on Duolingo.
Please add Persian I think Dr.Zamenhof who invented Espranto ,used Persian languge.See the phrase "I love you" in Persian which is in six forms of syntax and all of which are correct: تو را دوست دارم تو را دارم دوست دوست دارم تو را دوست تو را دارم دارم تو را دوست دارم دوست تو را Persian is flexible, easy and sweet. You can learn persian more quickly than any other languge ...
this is so nice that we are keeping this discussion going for years... soon Farsi will be in the Duolingo family!
Cantonese if i can I know you said not Chinese but that's because there will be a reverse for "Chinese" that's a Mandarin course so I can say Cantonese right? haha
No I only learn it, I would love to see it here on Duolingo, I even created a poll on it lel
Has anyone said Farsi yet? (sarcasm) Seriously though, why is Farsi (a language spoken by thousands and known for ancient poetry) not a course on this site, while Klingon (a language with NO native speakers which was created for a TV SHOW) gets a full course!? -Bill Jävandel (a Persian last name)
if anybody wants to read poems from all over the word, should learn persien because the most famous poets were persien.
How it is possible that you forget one of oldest languages!!! This is not respectful!
Will we see Farsi any time soon? It looks like it has been in high demand for about 5 years now.
Which dialect? The two most common are Quenya (High-elven) and Sindarin (Grey-elven). In the Third Age (the setting of The Lord of the Rings), Sindarin was the language most commonly spoken by most Elves in the Western part of Middle-earth.
Sindarin sounds cooler, but Quenya has its own alphabet. They use Sindarin in the movies.
I would love to be able to communicate with the family of my boyfriend! Please make this possible
I vote for Persian(Farsi). This is a very beautiful and sweet language and has several poems and stories that l can suggest to all.
Since many years we're voting for farsi but they would never give a ...... about our vote!
Oh, so the do not answer list is every language with a reverse course teaching English?
how do I vote for Farsi I my sister from another Mister Speaks it and we are both trying to learn each others languages
Ok I know that this discussion is probably from forever ago, but when is the next poll? I have become interested in Catalan for English speakers course, and would like to somehow support it, but I can't contribute in the incubator because I am not fluent in Catalan. HELP! AYUDAR!
من دارم یه سایت آموزش زبان فارسی راهاندازی میکنم. اگه کسی به فارسی و انگلیسی تسلط داره لطفن بهم ایمیل بده:
pejmands at yahoo .com
Farsi/Dari would be very useful not only for enthusiasts but also to the many people who work for positive change on that side of the world. And for the estimated 110 Million native speakers who would love to enjoy Duolingo and improve their English.
Latin, icelandic, hebrew, uhh a couple om the "do not answer any of these languages" list
Not sure where I was unclear. But if I can only vote for one, I guess Latin would be my choice.
catalan, nahuatl, hebrew, igbo, hausa, zulu, swahili, haitian creole, corsican
Corsican would be great. Thanks a lot for making this poll, and I hope my message gets through.
I say Basque. Duolingo needs to take on this awesome language and make it accessible.
