I hope so.

In generale con for si chiede qualcosa, senza for si chiede a qualcuno

to ask for

  • I ask for a statue/Chiedo una statua
  • We ask for a mirror/Chiediamo uno specchio

to ask:

  • I ask the mirror/Chiedo allo specchio

i do not understand why " the girl ask water" is not good.

The verb chiedere can mean 'to ask' or 'to ask for' - you have to determine which one is required based on the rest of the sentence. As "the girl ask water" is not correct English, you would deduce that the sentence is meant to be "The girl asks for water"

But 'the girl calls for water' is proper. What's wrong with that as an answer?
