This is what I typed (without the quotes), and it was marked as incorrect. "J'ai acheté un tube de dentrifice à la pharmacie ." I reported it as there are two sentences in this exercise for which Duo rejects the answer presented as the correct one.

Are you sure you wrote "dentifrice" correctly? I have seen several reports with "dentrifice".

"Chez le pharmacien" is correct but Duolingo wants "à la pharmacie".

You can use "chez" with any professional's work place: chez le boucher, chez le médecin, chez Duolingo
