From the verb "conseguir", "eu não consigo" = "I'm not able to"

What is the most common way to say this in Portuguese? - "Eu não posso estar..." - "Eu não posso ser..." or - "Eu não posso ficar..."

And also, "posso" over "consigo"?

In Portuguese we always say "Eu não consigo ficar/estar sem você" is the most common phrase in this situation.

Is using Ser in place of estar/ficar acceptable here? I got the impression that this was a sentence that would be exaggerated to the point of permanence.

I got this impression too. Almost like i cannot exist without you, a romantic expression.
