Verb tenses

So far, I've only learned present tense verbs, but I see that soon, I will be learning all kinds of different tenses. Things like past perfect, present perfect, gerund, subjunctive past, conditional, conditional perfect, imperative, etc.

Could someone just explain to me what all the different tenses are in English before I go and try to learn them in Spanish? Thanks :)

Here is a rather neat table: http://www.ego4u.com/en/cram-up/grammar/tenses

What you should also know is that tenses don't match exactly in different languages. For example, compound past (passé composé) in French can be translated with present perfect or past simple in English, depending on the context, so it is important to understand the concept of the tense in the foreign language.

If there are no grammar explanations in the respective Spanish skills, try the lessons and then search for the relevant Spanish grammar piece. Here is an overview of Spanish tenses: http://spanish.about.com/od/verbtenses/a/verbtenses.htm
