I personally would use "even though" because it gives better contrast but you are correct since in the Finnish sentence they didn't really express that level of contrast, just my opinion though. Edit: perhaps just a goof from the devs.

I would think that "We do not know Hungarian, despite living in Hungary" would also be acceptable, but apparently not. Too much assumption I guess

I think that's too far down the transliteration route. It's definitely an accurate sentence in English that says the same thing - if you were translating a document, you'd consider altering it like that to make it read better, but it's not translating the given Finnish sentence.
