Why do we use the -lla ending here rather than -ssa?

Is it because we are saying "over there" as opposed to "right there?"

Yeah, I think that makes sense. "tuolla" is something more far away than something that's "tuossa"

"Tuolla" also indicates a wider, less precise area, where as "tuossa" implies an exact spot.
