Timed practice seems to add time ineffectively

It seems to me that timed practice adds time wrong. More complicated sentences award extra time after they are answered, not before they are answered. So if I get a really complicated question, I can run out of time before I even finish typing it. And then when I get it right, and move on to the next question, I suddenly have tons and tons of extra time which I don't need any more.

Here's how I think it should work: instead of giving a time bonus based on the question they just finished answering, give the user a time bonus based on the question they are going to answer next. It's a small change, but I think it would vastly improve the learning experience.

Yes I agree. I am not fast at typing and sometimes I just give up on the long questions when I know there is no chance I have enough time to type it all in, instead I just type in one or two letters and click continue, and hope that the next one is going to be shorter and allow me enough time to get it right. Though I should not do this as this method really does nothing to strengthen my Spanish. It would not be so bad if the first one was always the long one, then each following one a bit shorter than the one before it.
