Do you have to have "used to look" or is it an acceptable translation to say "she looked "...?

"In her pictures, she resembled a duck," was given to me as the alternative to my incorrect attempt, so 'looked like' should work too.

Would it be possible if we knew the context, that it would go like: "In his photos, she used to look like a duck."? Like if that was a reason to leave him? I'm just curious.
