This is good to know. I studied French for 5 years in school a while back, and now I live really close to the French border in Germany, I'm trying to re-learn it. There are lots of good German-language French coursebooks and grammar books which I will use alongside Duolingo as it'll help my German too. I can remember French being really hard in school but I hope it'll come back to me. Well done again on the A2 - did you use any other resources?

Thanks! I practiced speaking with others, and occasionally watched children's cartoons in French, but Duolingo was pretty much my main source. Good luck with your studies! German seems very difficult. Maybe one day I can tackle it...

Thank you for that information. I'm hoping that if I ever get through the Duolingo French course, that I will receive a Certificate from Duolingo!!!

Nuthatch940 is correct, although don't let that stop you finishing the course and then taking an exam outside of the walls of Duolingo

Everyone is eligible. Take the French course and get free CLEP voucher:

      Modern States

A new, high-quality path to free college credit was launched in 2017. The goal of the program, dubbed “Freshman Year for Free,” is to make college more accessible and affordable for high school students, college students and adult learners, including active duty military personnel, their families, and veterans.

      Many more subjects available too.

You are hoping in vain. Duolingo doesn't give any form of certification as it does not examine your competence at the end of the course.

      Thanks for the links!

I started learn french about a year ago. When I hear french speech I am still not able to make difference between singular and plural, feminine and masculine and so on - I am wondering how the french people understand each other. :)

      https://www.duolingo.com/profile/--Roody--

Oral French often doesn't distinguish number, gender, or even conjugation. But the spelling (orthography) is usually more distinct, so it's easier to learn the grammar stuff with written language.

      https://www.duolingo.com/profile/Plamen95115

      Merci beaucoup :)

Congratulations Gail! I see you are level 24, and that you signed up for Duolingo about a year and a half ago. On average, how much time do you spend daily on DL? About 20-30 minutes? Also, I see from duome.eu/Gail319960 that you are almost half way through the tree (294 of 792 crowns). To me, that's great to know because it means that perhaps once you conquer the whole tree, you might test to B1!

Thank you for posting your story. It is an inspiration on the good results that can be achieved with persistence.

      https://www.duolingo.com/profile/Gail319960

Thank you! It depends; the weeks before the test, I tried to get 100xp consistently each day. I would say 15 min on average. Yes, I heard finishing the entire French Duolingo tree brings you to B1 :)

      https://www.duolingo.com/profile/youweizhuo

I think the crowns do not show the progress accurately. The number of skills (106/158) determines the position in the tree (about 2/3).

      https://www.duolingo.com/profile/jaiirapetjan

Agreed. The first level or two of a skill introduce you to it. Subsequent crowns are easier. But how do you know how many skills she has done? (Educators can see their students' progress, though).

      https://www.duolingo.com/profile/youweizhuo

You can find everything in the duome link (https://duome.eu/Gail319960/progress) you just posted.

Guys can you please give us a language course certificate. It would be really nice to get certified by you guys

        https://www.duolingo.com/profile/Lorel90

Wonderful!!!! You got to A2 with just Duolingo?

        https://www.duolingo.com/profile/Gail319960

I also practiced speaking with some friends who were fluent, and I'd occasionally watch cartoons in French. Children's cartoons are surprisingly good for learning the basics of a new language! But Duolingo was the main source I used. It helped me with a lot of everyday vocabulary.
