I have the same question. I guess I can imagine that the ingredients were already measured out so I am mixing THE butter and THE chocolate rather than SOME butter and SOME chocolate, but who knows!

Agree - why is "préparer" not acceptable? Duo often uses "préparer"when talking about "making" a meal or some type of food

There was probably a list of ingredients mentioned before and along come the instructions... where the definite article appears...
